Ahead of the fashion curve

The ability of brands to stay agile and on top of upcoming trends is of increasing importance in the fluctuating market we find ourselves in today. To quickly adapt to changes; to understand what’s happening and where things are heading; and to act on this knowledge – these qualities will differentiate the brands that will be successful in the long run. But how can this be achieved? Agility is up to the brands themselves, but through Material Exchange’s partnership with Texworld, it’s never been easier for brands to stay up to date on the styles of tomorrow. Read on to see which new fashion trends are on the docket for spring/summer 2026, and where the fabrics best suited for them can be found.

The biannual Texworld New York event is one of the largest textile and apparel sourcing trade shows in the US because of the people it brings together from across the globe. The connections made enable bold ideas that spark innovation – and are just what’s needed in fashion today. This January, Texworld New York together with Material Exchange will highlight three trends for the spring/summer 2026 season. These trends will offer brands insights into where fashion is going as well as inspiration to create their own lines – and the fabrics they need to do it.

Whimsical wit

Whimsical style is defined as the product of imagination and ambition. Not afraid to go against the mainstream, it relishes drawing attention and daring to play with fashion. When it comes to our Whimsical-whit collection, the style is characterized by bright color blocks, sweater knits, and flowy silks. Playful fashion is back, this time with a sophisticated approach alongside its trademarked creative styling. Novelties like graphics, intarsias, and prints are just a few of what can be created using fabrics from our Whimsical-wit collection.

Engineered-expression

Wardrobing that’s smarter with customization options to boot. Fabrics in our Engineered-expression collection are made for the latest innovations and constructions, whether that’s utilitarian textiles or expandable pleating. Versatility is the focus, and it’s achieved through transformation. Think: chunky cargo, durable camouflage, and relaxed suits.

Muted-modernism

The sharp edges of traditional modernism are being replaced with a soft, tactile touch. Seamless knits and plush piles – but, veering off from traditionally muted trends, these fabrics shine with bright colors. Subtle aesthetic features like pattern changes or UV-sensitive color offer unique, useful details. Future-forward fashion is made cozy with materials from our Muted-modernism collection.
